Crystal clear articulation is an understatement! More like razor sharp (the intonation -- not the rim contour)! Also, the throat and backbore make the slotting really, really tight, so you really have to "ride throttle" on your valve slides.
I tried one on my 186 and it sounded great. If I were an orchestra player instead of a band player, and was keeping up with a wire choir, the LM-7 would definitely be on my short list. This is a good deal for this mouthpiece. I wish I had an application for it.

great mouthpieces somebody get this. i play on the LM-10 Tommy Johnson series. Joe Murphy was my lesson teacher but more like a mentor to me now. the man knows his stuff when it comes to mouthpieces. also if you guys did not catch it comes with detachable rims so you have all types of possibilities and flexibility when it comes to playing different genres and styles of music. also with it being stainless steel they have so much mass it is incredible. i have had mine for two years now and it still looks beautiful!

Well, I have an LM-7. What do you guys think is the most popular rim?

Hey CaptainFiber -- before you go getting concerned about "popular" rims, is there anything about the stock rim that you particularly don't like? It is a good rim, and if I were to use an LM-7 on a regular basis, I would use its own rim. The only reason to change rims is if it is just so uncomfortable that it makes focusing a problem, or if your tuba playing is at a particular stage that you have been able to determine an actual preference for a particular rim that better fits your playing.
In other words, for the meantime, use the stock rim. Its size and profile offer a good blend of comfort and precision.
