Finale!
Sibelius is confusing and weird! Finale is not! Seriously though, they both have up-sides and down-sides to wrangle with. In the end, it's kind of like deciding if your a Mac person or a Windows person. I tried both at first (demos of course,) and decided that Finale was more logically laid out and accessible. I've used Finale since and I enjoy it. One thing I really like about Finale is the online forum - if you don't know how to do something, or if you encounter a problem that's not covered in the Help Readme/Index, the forum can pretty much solve any issue you're having - no matter how weird. I do most of my work with pencil and paper though. |

Download the demos of each and see which one is better for you.
Unlike the previous poster, I found Finale's interface to be an ill-conceived, poorly designed, and, at many points, counter-intuitive. And MakeMusic's technical support is a reciprocating engine: it sucks and blows. If you don't need all the RAM- and CPU hogging bloatware that MakeMusic and Sibelius cram into their apps (rock beats???? fancy paper backgrounds???), you might want to consider the opensource program [url=http://musescore.org/]MuseScore[/i]. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Sib or Fin, but it's a heckuva lot more capable than Fin Notepad and Score, and it's free. Lot more intuitive interface, too. |
