B&S PT-6P 5/4 CC Tuba with custom work done by Alan Baer and Chuck Ward (http://www.chuckwardbrass.com"). This horn has been EXTREMELY! taken care of with NO DENTS, NO SCRATCHES or any damage of any kind. The valves have all been vented, all slides have been lapped and the valves have recently been aligned with neoprene by Chuck Ward. Alan Baer has done a full conversion of the fourth slide and main tuning slide. The fourth slide has been disassembled and one tube replaced completely to allow for a 10+inch pull. The main tuning slide has been rebuilt with longer ferrules and when you're playing at 440, you're only about 3/4 inch of pull, at 442 you're only out about a 1/16 of an inch. The custom work has opened up the low register with an easy response and has greatly improved intonation with the extended slides and longer ferrules. A custom tuning guide has also been added to the first valve slide for on-the-fly tuning. I'm selling this horn with a Glenn Cronkhite Leather Gig Bag for $10,500. Contact me by pm or phone (252) 259-2425...

Reason For Selling:

I'm looking at upgrading to a MW 6450 in the future and unfortunately I have to part with my PT6 in order to purchase the new horn...

Please only serious buyers... Buyer pays shipping...

I'm selling my Miraphone 186 CC 4V tuba for $3800 or best offer. The instrument is in pretty good condition for being older. The serial number places the horn as manufactured in 1960. The lead pipe has 2 small patches on it from the previous owner. Original owner did work on instrument... removed some original parts. The linkage was replaced by previous owner. I had the first slide fixed because there was too much tension. Moves great now. Cosmetic damage. No case. If you are interested, you can PM me or email me at mfarkas1(at)kent(dot)edu

I have a CC Schneider tuba from the mid-80s (East German). While serving away from home in the military, a couple of nephews gained access to the horn and were not terribly gentle with it. The dents have been rolled as well as a chemical wash performed. What I can't seem to find is valve linkage parts. It has the old S style linkage and the main issue seems to be the linkage attachment cap that screws into the rotary valve stem that protrudes from the top of the case. Valve 4 has a slight bend to it with associated linkage induced sticking. Any suggestions on where to track parts for this horn?

My long an exhaustive hunt for a CC tuba seems to be coming to a close. My research, however, has left me without the opportunity to play one of these horns. Now, I know there is no substitute for actually playing the horn I may purchase(Baltimore Brass will probably be shipping one to me on Monday), but I am curious as to what the members of TubaNews have to say about these instruments.

Help make more great music for the euphonium...

We are more than halfway to our goal. We still need more people to be involved and hope that you will jump on the band wagon before May 15!!

Go directly to the Consortium Commission Webpage.

One of my favorite activities for the euphonium involves helping to produce and commission new works for the euphonium. Since my first endeavors during my undergraduate work at the University of Georgia, I have commissioned or had created more than 60 arrangements and compositions involving the euphonium. It has been quite a lot of work!! Most importantly, it has produced some very fine repertoire for the euphonium including the Euphonium Concerto by Allen Feinstein, Winner of the 2006 Harvey Phillips Composition Award presented by ITEA and works on the CDs Taking Flight and Beyond the Horizon (Volumes 1 and 2).

To continue to help build a greater community among players and teachers around the world, I wanted to expand and get more people involved in this process. Another successful community project was the Consortium Commission of Kevin Kaska to compose a Concertino for Euphonium. We had 10 wind bands from around the globe take part in that endeavor.

As I thought about how to branch out the commission opportunities further, I wanted to offer other players the opportunity to take part in these commissions so they can feel a great sense of OWNERSHIP in the future development of the euphonium's repertoire. So thus began THE EUPHONIUM FOUNDATION. An official not-for-profit 501-3(c), the Euphonium Foundation can receive TAX DEDUCTIBLE donations.

We have 4 projects for 2008 that involve a number of composers including a solo and tuba euphonium quartet work by Eric Ewazen, a solo work by Roland Szentpali, and a set of fanfares for tuba euphonium quartet by young composers Tim Jansa, Ken Friedrich, Chris Tucker, and David Dover.

I hope you will visit the Consortium Commission Webpage to find out more information about how YOU can be a part of this exciting opportunity. Membership levels begin at $45!!! A bargain to be a part of helping to create GREAT new music for the euphonium and tuba. So please get involved, join the movement, and spread the good word!!

The picture on the right is from the MENC National Convention. I got to solo with the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (playing at IEI 2008) and we closed with Melody Shop and invited in a few "ringers" in the form of Phil Franke and Mark Jenkins from the US Marine Band and also Aaron Tindell from Indiana University. It was GREAT fun indeed.
